Process Manufacturing

Benecor is a metallic foil welded in a stack, utilizing controlled penetration laser welding, cut to the cell height and expanded to length. Benecor can be manufactured in a number of cell configurations, as well as with cells of variables dimensions in a single blanket.

Cell size is controlled by weld spacing, which allows the varying of cell size and geometry throughout a given blanket.

Benecor, Inc. has reinvented and improved metallic honeycomb core to meet industry needs for lower cost, higher strength, and improved reliability. The advantages of fusion welded honeycomb core have been coupled with the process simplicity and cost advantages of expanded honeycomb.

The product strength and reliability is therefore maximized. A multitude of honeycomb cell sizes, core densities, and cell geometries can be produced from a myriad of metallic foils using the Benecor process. Get specifications here.

Benecor Honeycomb Core Solutions

Adhesively bonded honeycomb core has problems associated with the breakdown of the adhesion during temperature cycling, absorption of liquids, and corrosion caused by the adhesive.

Resistance welded honeycomb core often displays cell node mismatch and ribbon height variances, which create non-uniform bond surfaces. Brittle and broken node welds are commonplace in resistance-welded cores.

Benecor solves these problems.

Cell height mismatch is eliminated, as is cell node mismatch. Weld strength is consistent due to the consistency of laser welding. Many alloys, which have been unsuccessfully conjoined using either resistance welding or adhesive methods, have been produced into honeycomb using the Benecor process. The wide array of engineering choices sets Benecor honeycomb core apart from its predecessors.

Cell size is virtually unlimited, and cell configurations and densities can be varied to meet specific applications. The Benecor square cell shape offers unidirectional loading capabilities, exhibiting similar longitudinal and transverse shear properties.
